Berlin, Berlin
(1980-81)

In this series of 30 paintings in both black and white and color (see the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church painting) I attempted to reconstruct images out of the chaos of electronic distortion, images of a city that itself has been reconstructed out of the chaos of war. The result is a impressionistic, chaotic, sometimes menacing landscape, with no distinction between present and past, East and West. The paintings were first exhibited, appropriately, at the National Gallery in Berlin, my adopted home town.
